After earning his bachelor's degree in Art Education in 1974 from Rhode Island College, Robert accepted an apprenticeship in England, at the renowned Leach Pottery, St. Ives, Cornwall. For two years, he worked and studied with Bernard and his wife Janet, learning the techniques from which he developed his own distinctive style.
